Trend to Watch Bleached Eyebrows

To complement his over-the-top Fall 2011 collection, designer Tom Ford tapped the service of Victoria Secret model Candice Swanpoel as his high-fashion subject. As you may see in the photo, there is something noticeably missing on her and I am not talking about the angel wings.

It has become a recent trend we see on fashion magazines: eyebrows that lack in any color. It began with Michelle Williams on the cover of Interview magazine, then with Beyonc in an issue of W magazine. Unsurprisingly, faces with bleached, pigment-less brows appear on a number of editiorials, runway shows, and probably on the street if the fashionistas are willing. Question now is: Is it safe to bleach one’s eyebrows?

MTV Style has interviewed Aura Friedman, colorist at Serge Normant Salon and a Wella Color Ambassador. According to her, eyebrow bleaching should be done at the discretion of the stylist and not for everyday use.

“It’s something that works for pictures and on models or people with exceptional bone structure,” says Friedman. While brow bleaching is not serviced in any salon at the moment, Friedman says eye brows can be bleached to “work with their hair color, skin tone, and personal style.” The procedure could take up to 45 minutes, and like bleaching the hair, it can get very itchy.

You can try putting on color pigment over your brows if you like feel like doing something wild but temporary. You can go pale like Swanpoel or bright like Lady Gaga.
